Opioid Hysteria and a pain management doctors point of view

Chronic pain patients are being punished by ‘opioid hysteria’ and governments laying blame on over-prescribing of prescription opioids, rather than on illicit heroin and/or fentanyl.

The media is beating up the story, and the huge distinction between chronic pain patients who use prescription opioids responsibly and as prescribed, and those with opioid abuse disorder, or addicts. There is a vast difference between an addict and a pain patient.

This pain management doctor has it right.

” Addiction is a disease. Chronic pain patients did not cause this epidemic and should not be punished by having their opioids stopped.  “
